Are Hollywood writers more important than the celebrities and actors.?

by admin on December 13, 2010

David Letterman and Leno can’t make the jokes without the writers. Couric can’t anchor CBS news without the writers. The sitcoms stop. These celebrities are like deer in the headlights without the writers

Yet the actors, comedians, and other celebrities are the ones making the big bucks, and not necessarily the writers. Is this fair?

"In the beginning was the Word…" to quote an excellent writer. However great the idea, someone has to turn it into a great story and put it in the form of a screenplay that all the other professionals can take and study and turn into a movie or TV show. It’s a group effort, but it starts with the writer. The problem might be that the writer usually works alone, then the rest of the group takes over and the writer is left behind. By the time the story reaches the audience, the actors are the main ones who get the credit because they’re visible.
