CARMEN MIRANDA – AT HOME

by admin on April 30, 2010

Carmen Miranda opens her mansion to reporter Erskine Johnson & cameraman Coy Watson for their “Hollywwod Reel” show (the first TV program ever on Hollywood celebrities private life) to let everyone know what she is like when not singing & dancing – she’s just the same gracious and flavored well-known lady from Brazil. Without the fruits on her head she instead shows up in a bathing suit she designed on her own – a dare-to-wear bikini. Too daring for a 1950 bathing style to be shown on TV.

São imagens únicas. Obrigado! Tem-se a impressão de estar lá. Que interessante ver também o movimento nas ruas. E Carmen tem sempre um ar de quem está contente com aquele momento que está vivendo.

Eventhough everything was staged, it is wonderful to get to see and know Carmen at home.

Doni, Miranda’s mansion was turned down, wasn’t it? Do you know what’s on it’s place?

Marcos.

I was told the place was rehabilitated to give room to a shopping mall. I don’t know whether today the land is still under reclamation. I’d appreciate anyone would tell me. The price we all are forced to pay for the so-called “metropolization need”. Regards.

Prezado Marcos.

Cameraman Coy Watson just died at age 96 a few months ago. He was a child actor in silent films.

Hi. I didn’t know and I’m sorry to hear that. Thanks.

Coy Watson published a book about his life called “The Keystone Kid”. You can buy it through Amazon

DoniSacramento July 19, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Thanks very much for the tip. Do you know whether he ever mentions Carmen Miranda in his book?

8891randy July 21, 2009 at 11:20 pm

His book his mostly about his years as a child actor in the 1920s. His younger brothers worked in films in the ’30s, but Coy became a news photographer. He doesn’t talk much about what he did after about 1940.
